Maryville Quarry

We’re Proud to Serve You

We believe in doing things The Right Way at The Right Time. Since the 1940s, Maryville Quarry has been a vital economic engine for the region and an active community partner. We produce construction aggregates that are the building blocks for our roads, bridges, homes, hospitals, schools, office buildings, and places of worship.

  • Our Purpose: To responsibly supply the local market with essential materials that support the economy and build and maintain critical infrastructure.

  • Our Commitment: We strive to be a good neighbor, consistently meeting or exceeding local, state, and federal safety, environmental, and community-focused safeguards and protections.

  • Our Transparency: For nearly two decades, we have maintained timely and transparent monitoring, reporting, and open communication with the City of Maryville and the community.

We are excited to share our Optimization and Benefits Plan, an additional $12.5 million+ investment to enhance and optimize our operations, creating new community benefits.

Optimization & Benefits Plan

Montvale Road Berm

For more than a year, our team has been diligently working on ways to update a nearly two decades old site plan to enhance the overall appearance and experience for all our neighbors. So, why now?

Our engineers plan our sites in 20+ year cycles. Through advances in engineering and design, we can more efficiently use natural topography, creating long-term benefits for the community.

  • New Landscaped Berm: Constructs a permanent landscaped berm along the western boundary to provide long-term visual and sound screening for neighbors in and around Shannondale, Trotwood Farms and Montvale Road.

  • Better Overburden Storage: Reconfigures and restricts overburden storage height to the current elevation, providing visual benefits around the site and bringing the western perimeter up to the Duncan Road berm standard.

  • Preserved Southern Buffer: Preserves a critical 300 ft. southern buffer area to screen Trotwood Farms neighbors from the operation.

  • Centralized Mining: Centralizes mining away from Jarvis Park, the sports fields, and our Windsor Park neighbors. It also establishes a minimum 1,500-foot mining setback (5 football fields) from Montvale Road.

  • Safety and Monitoring: Increases the safe blasting and sound monitoring network and continues transparent reporting to the City and public.

  • Low-Sound Alarms: Requires low-sound safety backup alarms on mobile equipment operating in the overburden storage area.

We are actively sharing the Optimization and Benefits plan with our neighbors and stakeholders, listening to feedback, and answering questions to incorporate into a final plan for consideration by City Council. Please visit our Resources Page for additional information and updates.

Better Overburden Storage

So, what’s overburden? Overburden is the natural earthen material that we remove to access the rock that is needed to make high-quality construction materials. Today, the overburden is stored in designated areas to the west and south of our mining operations.

Under the Optimization and Benefits Plan, we will refine the site layout to create better overburden storage. We will take advantage of the natural topography and construct a permanent landscaped berm along our western boundary. The new berm will provide long-term visual and sound screening for our neighbors in and around Shannondale, Trotwood Farms, and Montvale Road.

Committed to Our Community

We responsibly use our land to serve the community in many impactful ways beyond making the products that are vital to the local economy.

  • We host hundreds of school children annually for educational tours, fostering a love for science, technology, math, geology, and learning and nature.

  • Since 2012, Special Growers has called our site home, providing more than 70 young adults with special needs the opportunity to harvest fresh herbs for distribution to local restaurants.

  • We dedicated over 24 acres to create Vulcan Fields, where our partnership with Blount United Soccer offers soccer training and development for the youth of Blount County.

Our employees are also out and about to make positive impacts across Blount County.

  • Education: Carpenters Middle School, Greenback School, Maryville City School Education Foundation, and Maryville College

  • First Responders: Blount County Sheriff, Maryville Police Department

  • Community: Blount United Soccer Club, Isaiah House 117, Leadership Blount, Maryville Kiwanis, Second Harvest Food Bank, Special Growers, and United Way of Blount County

And the entire business and civic community comes together each year for the Sporting Clays Tournament where our partnership with Cure Finders has raised more than $3.5 million since 2003 to support Cystic Fibrosis research.

Big Rocks to Small Rocks

What we do is quite simple. But it must be done The Right Way. Our Team is committed to:

  • Meeting or exceeding local, state, and federal laws and regulations to protect our people, community, and environment.

  • Prioritizing a safe work culture by recruiting and hiring individuals who share our commitment to safety.

  • Maintaining safe, engineered blasting procedures to protect our people, neighboring properties, and the community.

  • Monitoring all blasting activities through an independent third party.

  • Consistently meeting or exceeding regulated safety blasting limits designed to protect people, property, and structures.
